A

Several hormone changes occur. Oxytocin initiates
labour process. Causes ligaments of pelvis to soften, increases response of the uterus to stimuli and strengthen muscle contractions

what is the first stage of labour

A

During final 3 months, contractions are common. Start weak and irregular but become stronger and more frequent. Regular contractions and dilation of cervix mark beginning of birth process. First stage over in approximately 8-9 hours

What is the second stage of labour

A

Delivery of foetus. Lasts from full dilation to birth (20 mins-2 hours). Starts with fluid filled amniotic sac bursting. Foetus moves through cervix into vagina, stimulates contraction of uterus
