Chapter 8 Flashcards
Correlation vs regression
Correlation=relationship
Regression= Statistical prediction(assumption)
Linear regression
If there is a correlation established then from the persons score on one variable we can predict the persons score ont ehother variable
Assumptions of linear regression
- The data are homoscedastic
2. the Y scores at each X from an approximatly normal distribution
Homoscedastic
Similar spread of data throughout
Heteroscedastic
Uneven spread of data throughout
Multiple regression
Regression analysis in which more than one predictor variable is used to predict the outcome of another variable
3 types of multiple regression
- Standard
- Stepwise
- Hierarchical
Standard
All predictor variables entered in the equataion at the same time
Stepwise
Predictor variables endered into the quation one at a time
Hierarchical
Predictor variables enteresd intot he queation according to the predetermined order based on hypothesis
Factor analysis
Used to identify underlying dimentions(factors) that account for relationships observed among variables
3 basic uses of factor analysis
- Study underlying structure of psychological constructs
- Reduce large number of variables into smaller, more managable data set
- Develop self-report measures of attitudes and personality
