Chapter 11 Flashcards
Null hypothesis sig testing
Determines the proabbiltiy than an obtained effect is a REAL effect of the IV or the result of random error variance
Rejecting null hypotheisi
States there is an effect
Failing to reject null hypotheisis
States there is not an effect
Type 1 error
The null hypotheis is true, but the reserchers rejects the null and claims there is an effect when in reality there isnt
Type 2 error
The null hypotheisi is false but the resrecher fails ot reject the null hypotheis and therfore says that there is no effect when in actualoty there is
Alpha level
Probabilty of maiing a type 1 error
.5 is usually standard
Beta level
Proabibilty of making a type 2 error
2 factors that increase the rick of a type 2 error
- Incresed measurment error
2. Decreased sample size
As power increses the proability of a _____ error decreases.
Type 2
Cohens d
Standard for determining the effect size
