excitement stage: muscle tension, increased heart rate, and erection

Intrinsic Motivation
A desire to perform a behavior that stems from the enjoyment derived from the behavior itself.
Extrinsic Motivation
A desire to perform a behavior to obtain an external reward or avoid punishment.
sympathetic nervous system
active during the process that spend body energy from stored reserves, such as in a fight-or-flight reaction to a predator
parasympathetic nervous systems
most active during processes that restore reserves of energy to the body such as relaxing and eating
