Chapter 7 READ Flashcards
Sagittal Line:
imaginary line bisecting the body into right and left halves
movements: flexion and extension
Imaginary line bisecting the body into anterior and posterior halves
movements: adduction and abduction
Frontal Line
Transverse Line:
an imaginary line bisecting the body into superior and inferior halves
movements: rotation
Define: Concentric
muscle action where the muscle shortens, think acceleration
Define: Eccentric
muscle action where the muscle lengthens (stronger eccentrically), think negatives in the gym
Define: Isometric
muscle action where the muscle stays the same length, think plank
Define: Isokinetic
speed of movement is fixed (high-end pieces of equipment)
what is the “Feed-forward Activation”?
STABILIZATION FACT: certain muscles automatically activate in anticipation of a movement
Altered Reciprocal Inhibition
agonist receives signal, functional antagonist receives inhibitory signal allowing it to lengthen
Stretch Shortening Cycle
loading a muscle eccentrically to prep for a rapid contraction (jumping), the energy is stored in the series elastic component (tendon) and the transition between the eccentric and concentric portion is rapid and termed amortization
Force velocity curve
as the velocity of a concentric action increases , its ability to produce force DECREASES
as velocity increase during an eccentric action, , the ability to develop force INCREASES.
First class lever example:
Nodding the head
Second Class lever example:
Plantarflexion / Push-Up
Third Class level example:
Biceps curl
most limbs in the body are these (hamstring curl)
True or False:
agonist, synergist, stabilizer (always rotator cuff for upper, transversals abs for lower)
True
