Describe flexion and extension.
Flexion – action which brings together two parts of the body connected at a joint
Extension – act of straightening a limb, thereby diminishing flexion
What is a ligament? Tendon?
Ligament is a fibrous band of connective tissues that connects bone to bone to form a joint.
Tendon is a fibrous band of connective tissues that connects muscle to bone.
What are 5 questions that must be answered for every condition found during a foot checkup?
i. What is it?
ii. What causes it?
iii. What does it look like?
iv. Where is it likely to be found?
v. What would you do if you found it?
What are your options for treating contagious conditions?
i. Treat the hands or ears.
ii. Wear gloves
iii. If local, cover the area in question (eg. Band aid or surgical tape on plantar wart)
iv. Refer to another health care specialist
v. When in doubt, don’t.
How would you treat varicose veins?
Do not apply pressure to varicose veins. If the varicosities are not inflamed, a gentle, light upwards motion on the lower leg is beneficial.
