Chapter 14: Reproductive system Flashcards
What are the parts of the female reproductive system?
Ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vagina, breasts
What are the parts of the male reproductive system?
Testes, epididymis, seminal vesicles, vas deferens, ejaculatory ducts, prostate, urethra, penis
Name the glands responsible for maturational changes in girls and boys.
Ovaries, Testes
Name two female hormones. Where is each produced?
Progesterone produced by the corpus luteum in the ovaries as well as the adrenal cortex. Estrogen produced primarily by the ovaries, though also the adrenals and fat cells.
In what zone are the ovary reflexes located?
In zone 2 on the plantar aspect midway between the waist and heel lines. Also on the lateral aspect of the ankle, found in the indentation at the centre of the lateral aspect of the heel.
Where are the uterus reflexes found?
Uterus reflexes are in zone 1, halfway between the waistline and heel line on the plantar aspect of the foot and on the medial aspect of the ankle in an indentation at the centre of the medial aspect of the heel.
What is the role of the prostate gland and where is it located?
The prostate gland is located at the base of the bladder. It releases secretions into the urethra and ejaculatory ducts and acts as a pump to discharge semen during ejaculation.
With any complications of the male/female reproductive system always emphasize the __________ reflex. What other two reflexes?
Pelvis/Area relative to reproductive organs, Uterus/Vagina/Penis/Prostate, Ovary/Testes
What reflexes would you work for fibrocystic breasts?
Reproductive: Breast/Chest/Lung/Ribs, Pelvis
Endocrine: pituitary, adrenals
Nervous system: hypothalamus, solar plexus, brain
What reflexes would you work for PMS?
Female reproductive system: whole system
Endocrine system: pituitary, adrenals, thyroid, ovaries
Nervous system: solar plexus, hypothalamus, brain
Immune and Lymphatic: thymus, groin lymph/fallopian tube, drainage points
MSK: L3, spine
What reflexes would you work for prostate conditions?
Male reproductive system: whole system
Urinary system: kidneys, ureter, bladder
Endocrine: pituitary, adrenals
Digestive: gallbladder, large intestine (to prevent constipation)
Immune/Lymphatic: groin lymph/vas deferens, drainage points, thymus
MSK: L3/4, spine
