  • END OF 1917 ALL SOCIETS TOOK OVER , BUT not necessarily Lenin because not all soviets were Bolshevik, as most peasants still SUPPORTED SRS.
  • Constituent assembly coming up, and SRs won . Lenin just denied it because if they won he would give them power
  • Lenin still had to deliver on his April promises therefore he did some decrees in NOVEMBER
  • bolsheviks werent firmly in pwer other than petrograd so these decrees wpuld help get ear;y support

  • Proposed in PRAVDA it wouldn’t effective as now russia run by soviets, this because he only got 25% vote, and was scarred
  • regardless They met up, he said power should be limited when they said no, he dissolve it.
  • 24hrs later 100 people killed Next days who were PROTESTING OUTSIDE TAURIDE PALACE in support of assembly , including 2 Kadet leaders .
  • Lenin eliminated this threat thus by using red armies and guards closed down assmbely permanetly

  • lenin knew he had to follow up on peace as that was main selling point so decree of peace initated
  • sent trotsky to negotiate . he tried to prolong for as long as possible because they believed workers were on the brink of revolution across euorpe anyways , meaning reporcussions wouldnt have to be paid
  • ## but when they advanced in feb 1918 they were forced to agree by lenin

who criticised lenin but what he still did

  • Patriotic Russians and nationalists were horrified and it was scene as a humiliation, and they joined anti Bolsheviks groups. This because amount of land population lost and Lenin TROSTSKY tactic and willing to sacrifice national land for peace. (300 million roubles, land etc)

BUKHARIN CROTOCSED LENIN HERE. LENINS STILL WON IN THE CENTRAL COMITEE for the treaty in the bolshevik party , BUT YH BOLSHEVIKS NOT HAPPY EITHER.

siginificance of it- why did it pay off in the end

what was the key benefit of it for the survival of the bolshevik party

A
  • LENIN did a gamble. He hoped Germany would be defeated and everything reversed
  • Gamble paid off, failure of German spring offensive and USA troops mean war was over in autumn 1918, and so the treaty is over .
  • Thankfully they did it, because it gave Bolshevik givenment breathing space to survive. Yet as Germany gone, internal fight to come in shape of civil war- non ending for broski leninito
