chapter 4 Flashcards

1
Q

how did they gain enough steam to do the revolution?

A

1) feb revolution lenin sent by germany to do april
2) april gave hm hella support
3) yet july days unluckily got him accused but as they gained popularity not bad and temp setback
4) although exiled, still worked. land to peasants encouraged and end of war to soldiers
5) kronilov gave him hella weapons and also regained popularity
6) consituent assembly date decided= time to shine- after feb revolution lenin desparate to get back and let people know he would end the war as thats what was one of their problems

  • Germany thought if Russia pulled out of war they could fight western front of Britain and France easier. So they sent Lenin not rain to wreck chaos. smuggled from at train
  • here April theses got him support from desperate people. 1) Germany war end, power to working class, capitalist system abolished, all power to soviets, peace land bread- these were all so convincing . germans also fund his revolution too
    AS A RESULT
  • Member ship few from 25k to 100kin April, and June there were 40 newspapers too. And had red guard army
  • JUKY days was a protest of Bolshevik supporters but not by Lenin. as they knew he was funded by germany he was accused of being spy and so cut.
As areult Pravda closed and leaders sent to exile again, but atleast support increased( lenin controlled from abroad and recognised the fact that peasants would play an important part in the revolution and encouraged even more land seizures that PG were doing nothing about)
  • Kornilov gave them weapons. They knew peasants would help so land to peasants, and end the war so soldiers happy, as they were just peasants in uniform

this is how they got their popularity.

Q

how did it go down the initalu build up?

how was the date set essentially (why lenin chose specific dates and what caused it to be pushed forward etc)

why ironic when one time kerensky acted he could done?

A
  • Membership from 100 to 340k
  • they HAD TO DO IT BEFORE RUSSIAN congress, because they knew they wouldn’t win majority seats (remember an 1/8th before) and so if they had power before they could present authroity as FAIT ACCOMPLI (decided before), so they would hold power like this
  • Also before constituent assembly so if they lose which was likely they can igonore it
  • lenin arrived in 7 th October to petrograd.
  • ## 10th October central committee of Bolsheviks agree to do it, except KAMANEV and zinoviev . (trotsky didnt too but he agreed) They wrote their objection in a newspaper, As a results, Kerensky knew and ordered bolsheviks to be captured, he shut down pravda again . so Lenin said to do it fast – thus 24th October, before kerensky could stop them…

2)lenin gained a lot of support luckily, against backdrop of ww1 and kronilov etc, and when kerensky decided to act, by setting date for consituent assembly, then it was ironic as this ultimately lead to his downfall with lenin setting the data

Q

what happened in constiuent assembly and whta were interprations of th storming

A
  • Movement elections of constituent assembly bolsheviks only received 25% of the votes. Lenin ignored it then, but clear bolshevisk weren’t exactly popular
  • PEOPLE THOUGHT IT WAS HEROIC , and that it was a revoltion backed by masses
  • However it was barely any resistance and this over dramatised by things like the movie in 1928 ten days that shook the world and pictures. Wasn’t heroic

Q

lenin

A
  • Also crucial in sucesss, as he persuaded the Bolsheviks in the CENTRAL COMITEE. And he convinced them to oppose the war. As a result the Bolsheviks were the only party to denounce the war FROM THE START, and only party to refuse to work with the PG. he rallied support with slogans like peace land and bread.
  • His form decision to oppose the war was the key reason bolsheviks could uprise . Ain’t out him bolsheviks may have missed this opportunity forever. They took over Moscow then other parts of Russia next

Q

weaknesses of PG

A
  • Order number 1,
    no electoral mandate,

continuing the war,

July days and

DUAL PEER from the start meant it was doomed.

Kornilov forced Kerensky to arm them, and the propaganda made by bolsheviks means he had no support over the people
- Bolsheviks had the army, because PG continued the war, and the election never happened.
Peasant land issue never addressed. So,diese deserting constantky
