Chapter 4: Supportive Connective Tissue Flashcards
Hyaline Cartilage
*Matrix: Rubber (collagen and elastin)
*Cells: Chondrocyte
*Function: Support, reinforce, cushion, and resist compression.
*Location: forms the costal cartilage, found in embryonic skeleton and end of long bones, nose , trachea and the larynx
Elastic Cartilage
*Matrix: Rubbery (Elastin fibers)
*Cells: Chondrocytes
*Functions: Maintains shape and structure allowing flexibility. Support the external ear and epiglottis
*Location: ear, epiglottis, and the larynx
Fibrocartiage
*Matrix: dense
*Cells: chondrocytes
*Function: Provides tensile strength and absorbs compression shock.
*Location: Between the vertebrae and menisci
Bone
*Matrix: Solid
*Cells: osteocytes
*Function: Support and protection
*Location: the skeleton
