long and jagged fingernails
A wound portal is an entry for
microbes
Circulatory ulcers are:
Vascular ulcers, open sores on the lower legs or feet
-caused by decreased blood flow through arteries and veins
-persons with diseases affecting the blood vessels are at risk
- wounds are hard to heal
Venous ulcers
Stasis ulcers
are open sores on the lower legs or feet caused by poor venous blood flow
Arterial ulcers
Ischemic ulcers
are open wounds on the lower legs or feet caused by poor arterial flow
Elastic stockings
put pressure on the veins
leg swelling is reduced
prevents blood clots thrombus
When applying an elastic bandage, you should
check the extremity every hour
Wound dressings
- protect wounds from injury and microbes
- absorb drainage
- remove dead tissue
- promote comfort
- cover unsightly wounds
- provide a moist environment for wound healing
- apply pressure to help control bleeding
When performing a dry, non-sterile dressing change, when are clean gloves put on?
After removing the soiled dressing
Heat
- relieves pain
- relaxes muscles
- promotes healing
- reduces tissue swelling
- decreases joint stiffness
Cold
- reduces pain
- prevents swelling
- decreases circulatory and bleeding
- cools the body when fever
