Urinary catheter specimen
It can be collected from an indwelling catheter. Urine in the drainage bag is not used. The port on the drainage tubing is used to collect the specimen
24-hour urine specimen
ALL urine voided during 24 hours is collected for a 24 hour urine specimen. To prevent microbes, urine is chilled in ice.
24-hour test specimen is restarted if:
- voiding was not saved
- toilet paper was discarded into specimen
- specimen contains stools
