What are accessories?
Accessories are extra items worn to complete a look or change the look of what we wear.
Why are accessories worn?
- complete an outfit
- create an interesting look
- change the look of an outfit
- express our taste and style
- can be functional
What is a fashion trend?
Fashion changes over time. These changes are called fashion trends.
What is a fashion fad?
A fashion fad is a that is very short-lived fashion trend
What influences fashion trends?
- famous people
- historical events
- the media
- the fashion industry
- street fashion
What is a couturier?
A professional fashion designer
What is Haute couture?
Original and very expensive clothing made by fashion designers for individual people
What is Prêt-à-porter?
A designers ‘ready-to-wear’ collection. These are good quality but cheaper and more readily available than Haute couture.
What is off-the-peg clothing?
The clothes you see in regular clothes shops. They are usually made out of cheaper materials.
What points should you consider when designing an outfit?
Consider the following pointss:
- occasion
- comfort
- cost of outfit
- fashion
- colour
- size
- design
What does adding lines to an outfit do?
It can make a person appear thinner or bigger, taller or smaller.
What do vertical lines do?
Add height and make the person look slimmer
What can horizontal lines do?
Make a person look broader
What can curved lines do?
Gave a soft look to the clothes
