Economic liberalism (province should not intervene in economy)

Increased industrialization, creating higher demand for raw materials (iron, wood, pulp and paper, aluminium, asbestos)

Duplessis praised province’s obedient and diligent workforce, low tax rates, little gov’t intervention

Duplessis slogan, Bleu (Union Nationale/consv.) good, Rouge (liberals) bad
What does “La cooperation toujours, l’assimilation jamais” signify?
Duplessis/QC wanted to get along with Canada, but not too much in fear of losing autonomy

- Adopt QC flag in 1948
- Implements prov income tax of 15%
- Refuses fed school funding (prov juris)
- Opposed fed unempl insurance
