Describe the Cold War
Proxy wars between US and USSR from 1945 - 1991 (USSR breaks up), did not fight because they both had nuclear weapons that would destroy the earth if detonated

World separates into Western and Eastern Blocs, split by the Iron Curtain (border)

W: America + capitalist allies (NATO)

Europe rebuilt, allowing many countries to experience economic growth, boosting population’s purchasing powers

City split after WW2, West (US, UK, France), East (USSR). Built of brick, barbed wire, had watchtowers and was under constant surveillance, 5k+ escape East
