Chapter 2 Flashcards
pons
xerox copy
cerebellum
compares what you meant to do with what you actually do and corrects movement
L/R hemispheres - cerebellum
coordinates movements of arms and legs
vermis - cerebellum
midline - controls core
3 cerebral peduncles - cerebellum
bundle of white matter, connect cerebellar to rest of nervous system
I, II
olfactory, optic - cerebrum of head
III, IV
oculomotor, trochlear - midbrain behind peduncles
V, VI, VIII
trigeminal, abducens, facial - pons btw pons and …..
ViII, IX, X, XI, XII
vestibular cochlear, glossopharangeal, vagus, accessory, hypoglossal
Thalmus - cerebrum
cluster of cell bodies that are part of a sensory pathway, at midline slightly posterior (White)
basal ganglia - cerebrum
cluster of cell bodies at base of brain, rostral - plans movement
gyrus
out folding/ mountain on surface of cerebral cortex
sulcus
infolding/shallow valley
fissure
deep separation btw hemispheres or separate structures
Frontal Lobe
voluntary motor fx & cluster that help with executive fx (move and think)
Parietal lobe
somato sensation
temporal lobe
hearing and auditory fx
occipital lobe
visual fx
limbic lobe
around thalamus and basal ganglia under frontal and parietal lobe (emotions & memory)
insular lobe
btw parietal lobes - olfaction
two outside sulcus and loco?
central sulcus - btw frontal and parietal
lateral sulcus btw temporal and frontal/parietal
two inside sulcus and loco?
singular - limbic lobe from everything else
parietal and occipito - btw parietal and occipital
corpus collosum (WM)
connects hemispheres, big fan shaped front front to back
internal capsule (WM)
giant white matter that connect head with rest of body (motor and sensory)
What are the 2 support systems for SC & brain fluids?
CSF and vascular
ventricle fx?
mechanically cushion and chemically protect brain and sc
Movement of fluid through ventricles - heart
2 lateral ventricles –> 2 inter ventricular foramen –> third ventricle –> cerebral aqueduct –> fourth ventricle (btw pons and medulla) –> OUT (2 lateral foramen and 1 median foramen)
Dura Mater
tough outer layer keeping ventricle in place by skull and outer bone, makes sure hemispheres do not bump
