Chapter 19- Shaping Behavior Flashcards
Differential reinforcement
A procedure during which some members of a response class are reinforced while others previously emitted members of the same response class are not
Fading
A technique to gradually change the antecedent stimulus. Stimuli are presented or removed gradually
Response differentiation
Differentially reinforcing some members of a response class that more nearly resemble the terminal behavior and changing criterion for reinforcement
Shaping
The continuous, differential reinforcement of successive approximations to a desired behavior
Successive approximation
Any intermediate behavior that is either a prerequisite for the terminal behavior or a higher order member of the same response topography as the terminal behavior
Terminal behavior
When the topography, frequency, latency, duration, or amplitude/magnitude of a given behavior reaches the predetermined criterion level
Clicker training
A science-based system for shaping behavior using positive reinforcement
