Chapter 15- Punishment by Removal of a Stimulus Flashcards
Contingent Observartion
The individual i repositioned within an existing setting such that observation of ongoing activities remains, but access to reinforcement is lost
Exclusion time-out
The individual is removed physically from the environment for a specified period, contingent on the occurrence of the targeted inappropriate behavior
Recommended method of first choice because practitioners are ethically bound to employ the most powerful, but least restrictive, alternative when deciding on eligible variations
Hallway time-out
The child is directed to leave the classroom and sit in the hallway
nonexclusion time-out
planned ignoring, withdrawal of a specific reinforcer, contingent observation or the time-out ribbon so that the individual`s access to reinforcement is lost, but the individual remains within the time-in setting
partition time-out
the individual remains within the time-in setting, but his view within the setting is restricted by a partition, wall, cubicle, or similar structure
planned ignoring
Social reinforcers are removed for a brief period, contingent on the occurrence of an inappropriate behavior
Response cost
A form of punishment in which the loss of a specified amount of reinforcement occurs, contingent on the performance of an inappropriate behavior, and results in a decreased probability of the future occurrence of the behavior
time-out from positive reinforcement
The withdrawal of the opportunity to earn positive reinforcement or the loss o access to positive reinforcement for a specified time, contingent on the occurrence of a behavior
time-out ribbon
a colored band that is placed on a child`s writ and become a discriminative for receiving reinforcement. If the child misbehaves the ribbon is removed, and all forms of social interaction are terminated for a specific period
punishment by removal of a stimulus
an environmental change occurs such that a stimulus is removed subsequent to the performance of a behavior, and the corresponding future frequency of the preceding behavior is reduced.
Also known as negative punishment and PCW (punishment by contingent withdrawal
Bonus response cost
Additional reinforcer made available to the individual noncontingently, specifically for removal during a response cost contingency
