What is the difference between a paracrine and endocrine hormone?
Paracrine hormones act on neighboring cells, not released through the body, just localized spots
Endocrine hormones release into the blood and circulate to intended target
How are paracrine and endocrine hormones different than neurotransmitters?
Neurotransmitters uses hormones to stimulate action potential through the nervous system, they are located and travel within that system
What is an amine hormone? Two examples?
Created by modifying amino acids, water soluble
Epinephrine and Dopamine
What kind of hormones are derived from cholesterol and are lipid soluble?
Steroid Hormones
What kind of hormones are Cortisol and Testosterone
Steroid Hormones
What are peptide hormones?
Amino acid polymers, water soluble
What are two examples of peptide hormones?
ADH and Oxytocin
