people who are sick face many challenges and go through ‘stages’

  1. uncertainty
  2. disorder –> stress
  3. trying to recover –> active coping
  4. recovery of well-being –> new emotional equilibrum based on acceptance of the disease and its consequences

not everyone goes through every phase and it is criticisezd because it categorizes patients and entails cetrain expectations. It is a good starting point, but should in practice be taken with a grain of salt.
