How do we measure skin folds?
with a caliper pinching various parts of the body to locate a skin fold. A measurement of 2 or 3 skin folds is shown to be reasonably accurate
What is BIA?
bioelectric impedance analysis
How does BIA work?
measures resistance to current flow, electrodes are placed on the body and low doses of current are passed through the body
What is waist to hip ratio?
the circumference of the waist to that of the hips
How do you calculate waist to hip?
waist divided by hip
How much weight should you lose a week?
no more than 1-2 pounds per week
What is BMR?
Basal Metabolic Rate- energy expenditure in a basic or rested state
What is creeping obesity?
when body fat gradually increases with age due to the fact that BMR decreases as you get older
What is the best way to control fatness?
maintaining healthy levels of body fat for both children and adults

What location of fat is the most dangerous?
The core or visceral fat because of high blood fat levels and heart issues
