Chapter 12- Chromosomal Inheritance Flashcards
Wild Type
The normal type of chromosomes found in wild flies
Chromosome theory of Inheritance
Mendelian genes have specific loci on chromosomes and their profit ion determines if they assort independently
Sex Linked Gene
A Gene found on the X or Y chromosome
X linked Gene
Genes found on the X chromosome and are more disability are found in men
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
An x linked gene that affects 1 out of 3500 men and is progressive loss and weakening of muscles after the late 20’s
Hemophilia
X linked disorder when blood doesn’t clot
Barr Body
When a gamete that is female one of each x in the cell activates and one deactivates randomly so there is a random number of each x’s
Linked Genes
Genes that are close to each other on chromosomes inherited together in crosses
Genetic recombination
The production of offspring that differ in traits than those found in either parent
Parental Types
Offspring that matches the parents phenotypes
Recombinants
Offspring that have different phenotypic combinations than their parents
Crossing over
In meiosis when genes cross over and mix information
Genetic Map
An ordered list of the loci on specific chromosome
Linkage Map
Genetic Map based off recombinations frequencies
Map Unit
1 percent of recombinations frequency
