Chapter 11: Mechanical Systems Flashcards
Absolute Humidity
Water vapor density is defined as the ratio of the mass of water vapor to the volume of associated moist air and is generally expressed in grams per cubic meter.
ASHRAE
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, and the international society organized for advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, and refrigerating for the public’s benefit through research, standards, writing, continuing education, and publications.
Dew Point
A measure of atmospheric moisture, It is the temperature to which air must be cooled in order to reach saturation (assuming air pressure and moisture content are constant). A higher dew point indicates more moisture present in the air.
Dry Bulb Temperature
Technically, the ambient temperature registered by the dry-bulb thermometer of a psychrometer. However, it is identical to the temperature of the air and may also be used in that sense.
Green Data Center
A data center that is designed to reduce the facility’s environmental impact by implementing energy-efficient systems (i.e., power, lighting, mechanical/cooling, and telecommunications).
HVAC
Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning
ITE
Information Technology Equipment. Electronic equipment used for the creation, processing, storage, organization, manipulation, and retrieval of electronic data.
NEBS
Network Equipment-Building System
PUE
Power Usage Effectiveness, which = (measure of the power consumed by the data center) / (power consumed by servers, storage, devices, and other ITE
Wet Bulb Temperature
The lowest temperature is attained by evaporating water from a saturated wick covering the bulb of a thermometer at the point of observation.
