Chapter 10 Flashcards
Warm-up?
Low-intensity exercise to prepare the body for more intense physical activity.
Types of warm-ups?
- Active
- Passive
- General
- Specific
Benefits of a warm-up?
Enhance performance and reduce injury potential.
Warm-up progression phase?
- Low intensity general warm-up
- Moderate intensity general and specific warm-up
- High intensity potentiation warm-up
Flexibility?
A measure of joint ROM without injury.
Hysteresis
The amount of energy last as heat during the elastic recoil.
Factors affecting flexibility?
- Joint structure
- Muscular imbalances
- Muscular control
- Age
- Gender
- CT
- Bulk (fat or muscle)
- Training in a limited ROM
- Activity level
Static stretcing?
Holding a joint position.
Dynamic stretching?
Actively moving a joint through its full ROM.
Ballistic stretching?
Bouncing to stretch.
PNF stretching?
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation includes muscle contraction while stretched.
Autogenic inhibition?
Reflex relaxation in agonist muscle after fatigue.
Reciprocal inhibition?
Antagonist muscle relaxation form contraction of agonist muscle.
Cooldown?
Post-workout light exercise activity which provides adjustment back to rest.
