Pathology
Study of structural changes in the body caused by diseases
Pathological Anatomy
Study of changes in the structure of the body that are readily seen with the unaided eye as a result of disease
Gross Pathology
Study of microscopic changes that cells, tissues and organs undergo as a result of disease
Microscopic Pathology (Histopathology)
Study of tissue specimen excised surgically in a major or minor operation
Surgical Pathology
Study of disease by means of body secretions, excretions, and other body fluids performed in the laboratory in the diagnosis of a disease
Clinical Pathology
Study of changes in body functions due to disease
Physiological Pathology
Study of disease to ascertain cause and manner of death
Medico-Lethal Pathology
The study of widespread processes of disease such as inflammation, degeneration,o necrosis or cell death
General Pathology
Features of disease in relation to particular tissue organ, or organ systems
Special Pathology
Postmortem examination of the body organs and tissues to determine cause of death
Autopsy
A public officer whose chief duty is to investigate questionable deaths
Coroner
Forensically trained physician who investigates questionable or unattended deaths
Medical Examiner
Essential qualities or characteristics by which something is recognized
Nature
State or functional disequilibrium, change in function or structure that is considered to be abnormal
Disease
A disease starts at the cell level then proceeds to tissue then the organs then the whole body
Virchow’s Cellular Theory of Disease
The term denoting the naming of the disease or syndrome: to recognize the nature of a disease
Diagnosis
Prediction of the outcome of a disease
Prognosis
Unfavorable condition arising during the course of a disease
Complication
Objective disturbances produced by disease observed by a physician
Signs
Subjective disturbances caused by disease that are felt or experienced by patient but not directly measurable
Symptoms
A set of signs and symptoms associated with a particular disease
Syndrome
Pertaining to or characterized by fever
Febrile
Existing at the time of birth
Congenital
A condition transmitted from parent to offspring
