6
Q

Why do plates move

A

Because they are floating on molten rock of the mantle

7
Q

What are convocation currents

A

They are in the mantle and cause the molten rock to move

11
Q

How do midocean ridged occur

A

When 2 plates pull apart the sea the lava rises up to the ocean floor. It cools quickly into solid rock. After many eruptions it builds up to form small mountains under the water

15
Q

How are earthquakes caused

A

When pressure builds up at the edge of the plates as they collide or slide past one another. When pressure is released a huge amount of energy is also causing the plates to shake.

16
Q

Focus

A

A place deep in the earths crust where earthquakes begin

17
Q

Tremors

A

These are waves of seismic energy which spread out of the focus

18
Q

How do you measure the force of an earthquake

A

Seismograph

19
Q

How do you measure the force of an earthquake

A

Richter scale

20
Q

How to fold mountains occur

A

When two plates collide the pressure compresses the rocks forcing them to buckle and fold. When two plates collide the crust buckles and folds. This creates a pattern of ridges and valleys

21
Q

Syncline

A

The down ward part of a fold mountain (valley)

22
Q

Anticline

A

The upward part of a fold mountain (ridge)

23
Q

Name an example of young fold mountains

A

The alpes

24
Q

Name an example of amorician fold mountains

A

Magilliciddy reeks
