Q

Arrhythmia in which bradycardia alternates with tachycardia. Occurs when the sinoatrial node and ecoptic sites elsewhere in the myocardium take turns being the heart’s pacemaker.

Q

Area of dilation and weakness in the wall of an artery. Can be congenital or where arteriosclerosis has damaged the artery. With each heartbeat, the weakened artery balloons outward. These can rupture without warning.

Q

Progressive degenerative changes that produce a narrowed, hardened artery. Begins with a small tear in the endothelium that’s caused by chronic hypertension. Then LDLs in the blood deposit cholesterol and form a Atheroma or Atheromatous plaque inside artery. Plaque grows and narrows artery and walls become hardened and nonelastic.

A

Arteriosclerosis

Hardening of the arteries
