Chap 3 (Energy changes in reaction) Flashcards
Which direction do exergonic reactions always go in?
Forward
System tend to go from states of_______potential engery to states of________ potential energy
Higher, lower.
What is a coupling reaction?
When a catabolic reaciton occurs and energy is released and it is used to drive a anabolic reaction
What is equilibrium?
When there is no net reaction, forward reaction= reverse reaction. Also when they have the same energy.
What can be said about the law of Mass Action?
An increase in the concentration of reactants tends to push a reaction forward
An increase in the concentration of products tends to push a reaction in reverse
Give an example of Law of Mass Action in relation to physiology.
When you ingest a meal, blood glucose levels increase, as glucose is absorbed into the blood. In response, insulin is released signalling increase in glucose uptake into cells.
