NEVER operate chain saw in UNCOMFORTABLE position

23
Q

If a log is impractical to support:

A

cut 1/2”-3/4” of diameter downward….finish cut by cutting UPWARD the remaining portion photo-figure 9)

25
Q

Wood on the ground or standing timber which is under tension, has first to be cut on the COMPRESSION SIDE, then TENSION SIDE.

A

For PINCHING- use wedge or cut on slight angle

27
Q

Limbing is removing branches from a fallen tree…

A

extreme danger of KICKBACK, during limbing operation…do not work with NOSE of the bar…do NOT STAND ON LOG while limbing it

-start limbing by leaving lower limbs to support the log off the ground…NOT necessary to run saw at full throttle (usually that is normal procedure)

use caution -limbs can spring back towards operator

29
Q

Cutting trees blown or uprooted.?

A

start cutting TRUNK from Topside, working toward the stump, this will help lighten load on pressure points

make trunk cuts, working toward stump, beware, the tree can stand back upright when you remove enough weight

38
Q

IF CHAIN spins while at idle …

A

PLACE OOS (similar to power saw)

-once cut is started, do not slow down and accelerate, saw may pull you off balance

DO NOT leave saw unattended while running

  • not actively cutting, SAFETY BRAKE must always be applied
  • “feathering”-increasing and decreasing pressure on throttle trigger- used JUST PRIOR TO FINISHING A CUT
