Q

Shaver JAVMA 2022

Clinical features, treatment, and outcome of dogs with Coccidioides osteomyelitis

  • age/weight vs. OSA?
  • more common lesion locations?
  • long term treatment/resolution?
A

Dogs with COM were younger and weighed less than dogs with OSA

Axial lesions and nonadjacent polyostotic disease were more common in dogs with COM than OSA

1 year after treatment, 9/9 dogs were still receiving fluconazole and 8/9 dogs had positive IgG titer results

Q

Rodriguez JFMS 2021

Treatment of pelvic fractures in cats with patellar fracture and dental anomaly syndrome

% with pelvic fx?

A

27% found to have pelvic fractures

Fourteen cats were euthanased as a direct result of a fracture occurring

Q

Pilot JFMS 2021

Chronic paronychia in cats with patellar fracture and dental anomaly syndrome

% medical vs. surgical management?

A

five cats with multiple digits of multiple limbs affected

36 digits were affected, 17% (n=6/36) resolved with medical management and 83% (n=30/36) were eventually treated successfully by amputation

Q

Marconato JAVMA 2021

Timing of adjuvant chemotherapy after limb amputation and effect on outcome in dogs with appendicular osteosarcoma without distant metastases

A

Median time to start chemo = 14 days post-op

If chemo started <5 days post, significantly longer time to tumor progression vs. starting >5 days post

Median overall survival time significantly longer for dogs started chemo <5 days post-op vs. >5 days

Q

Crooks VRU 2021

The use of fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission

  • % of mets ID’d?
  • sites of mets?
  • conclusion?
A

18F-FDG PET/CT identified 25% and 15% of dogs w/ high suspicion or confirmation of metastatic or comorbid malignant neoplasms respectively

sites of metastasis: 10% distant bones, 7% lungs, 5% regional LN

results suggest this is an effective method to ID both osseous and soft tissue secondary neoplastic lesions in dogs w/ appendicular OSA w/ increased detection rate of all lesions compared to prev reported skeletal scintigraphy and whole-body CT

Q

Marshall VSURG 2022

Delayed union, non-union and mal-union in 442 dogs

  • list risk factors for delayed or non-union
  • was R/U in toy breeds a risk factor?
A

Risk factors for delayed or non-union were:
- increasing age (OR 1.21)
- comminuted fracture (OR 4.24)
- treatment with bone graft (all types) (OR 3.32)
- surgical site infection (OR 3.24)
- major implant failure (OR 12.94)

**Radius and ulna fractures in toy breed dogs were not at increased odds of delayed or non-union

Q

Perry JVECC 2023

Refractory shock, hypercoagulability, and multiorgan thrombosis associated with hypertrophic osteodystrophy in a dog

A

4mo Mastiff

Viscoelastic testing was consistent with hypercoagulability

This is the first report detailing the occurrence of refractory shock and hypercoagulability associated with HOD in a dog without evidence of another identified comorbidity.

Q

Barrett VSURG 2023

Comparison of two postoperative complication grading systems after treatment of stifle and shoulder instability in 68 dogs

  • what were the tests?
  • which was more reliable?
A

Adapted Clavien–Dindo postoperative complications grading system and Cook 3-point scale

The aCD grading system was less reliable than the Cook system when evaluating all cases but more reliable when evaluating cases of complications excluding “sequelae” and “failures to cure”
