CH 21 & 22 Part 2 Flashcards
Innate immunity deals with what kind of cells?
- Neutrophils
- Macrophages
- Dendritic cells
How do neutrophils and macrophages break down unwanted substances?
Engulf them
What is exocytosis?
Release of degraded residue
Why are dendritic cells special?***
They present fragments of destroyed particles
Dendrites present fragments for?
T-lymphocytes
Natural killer cells will destroy?
- Virus infected cells
- Bacteria infected cells
- Tumor cells
- Transplanted tissue cells
How do NK cells kill?
They release cytotoxin chemicals. Perforin and Granzymes.
Function of perforin?
Creates pores in unwanted cells
Function of granzymes?
Enters perforin pores and causes apoptosis of cell
What is apoptosis?
Shriveling cell death
What are inferons?
A class of cytokines that impede viral spread
What is osponization?
When a complement protein binds to pathogen
Function of opsonin?
Bind to a antigen and make it easier for phagocytes to eat it
What do mast cells and basophils release to make openings in blood vessels?
Histamine
Why do mast cells and basophils make openings in blood vessles?
So neutrophils can enter the tissue
