CH 20 Vessels part 2 Flashcards
What are the two forces of bulk flow?
- Filtration (Push)
2. Reabsorption (Pull)
Filtration function?
Moves fluid from capillaries to tissue
Filtration function?
Move fluid from tissue to capillaries
What is hydrostatic pressure?
Force coming from fluid
What is colloid osmotic pressure?
Pull of fluid due to proteins (Albumins)
Hydrostatic pressure deal with what fluid and gas?
- H2O
2. O2
Colloid osmotic pressure deal with what fluid and gas?
- H2O
2. CO2
Purpose of bulk flow?
Move fluids that contain gases
How do arteries deal with pressure?
They have elastic fibers and smooth muscle
What pressure changes as it moves through the capillaries?
Hydrostatic pressure
What pressure never changes as it moves through the capillaries?
Colloid osmotic pressure
What pressure should be higher on the arterial end? What does it promote?***
- Hydrostatic pressure
2. Filtration
What pressure should be higher on the venous end? What does it promote?***
- Colloid osmotic pressure
2. Reabsorption
How to find Net Filtration Pressure?***
Hydrostatic pressure - Osmotic pressure = N.F.P
How to tell if Net Filtration Pressure (N.F.P) is filtration or reabsorption?***
- If positive its filtration
2. If negative its reabsorption
How to find pulse pressure?***
Stolic - Diastolic = Pulse pressure mmHG
What does pulse pressure reflect?
Elasticity and recoil of arteries
What do veins use to pump blood against gravity?
- Skeletal muscle pumps
- Respiratory pumps
- Valves
Which pump is constantly active? Why?***
Respiratory pump, because its activated by breathing and we are always breathing
What causes skeletal muscle pumps to activate?
Muscle contractions
What is deep vein thrombosis? And cause?
- A clot in the veins
2. Platelets sticking together
