Ch 2 & Ch 15 Sec 4 vocab Flashcards
Bacteria
a domain made up of prokaryotes
that usually have a cell wall and usually reproduce by cell division; this domain aligns with Eubacteria
Archae
In modern a taxonomic system, a domain made up of prokaryotes (most known to extreme climates)
Eukarya
A domain made up of all eukaryotes Aligns with kingdoms Protista & plantae
Protista
A kingdom made up of mostly one celled eukaryotic organisms that are different from plants, animals, bacteria and fungi.
Fungi
- A kingdom
- nongreen, eukaryotic
- no means of movement,
- reproduced by spores,
- and get food by breaking down substances in their surroundings and absorbing the nutrients
Planate
A kingdom made up of multicellular organisms that are usually green, have a cell walls made up of cellulose, cannot move & use the sun’s energy to make sugar by photosynthesis.
Animalia
A kingdom made up of complex, multicellular organisms that lack cell walls, can usually move around, and quickly respond to their environment.
Classification
A method of scientific taxonomy used to group and categorize organisms hierarchically and are based on specific characteristics
Taxonomy
The science of naming, describing, and classifying organisms. It includes all plants, animals, and microorganisms.
Dichotomous key
An aid that is used to identify organisms and consists of the answer to a series of questions.
Eukaryotes
Any organism having as its fundamental structure with cells with cytoplasm, nucleaus with genetic material including chromosomes. Division by meiosis or mitosis
Prokaryotes
Archae and bacteria, no nucleus or membrane-bound organelles and the simultaneous occurrence of DNA transcription and protein synthesis.
Single celled.
Protist
Eukaryotic organism that is not fungi, plants, or animals and are unicellular or colonial. Basically single celled or simple multicellular organisms
Protozoans
Any of a diverse group of eukaryotes, primarily uni cellular, non-photosynthetic usually
Algae
Plant-like Protists and are eukaryotic
