1st 9weeks Study Guide Flashcards
What’s a meteorologist?
Someone who studies earth’s atmosphere and predicts the weather
What do you do if the materials for your experiment are hard to find?
Do more research and look for new ideas, resources, and results from someone else’s experiment
Your popcorn does pop when you put it in the microwave. Why did this happen and what steps could you take to help locate this problem?
Use the scientific method to figure it out
Three ways a scientist looks for an answer to a question
Research, observation, testing a hypothesis, testing model
Name 3 ways science directly affects your life
It saves lives, resources, and the environment
What does a science illustrator do?
They draw scientific illustrations that help you understand things better
How do engineers use technology?
They use technology we already have to develop new technology and improve products
What’s a prediction?
An educated guess/ what a scientist thinks will happen
What must you do after you have data?
You must have an analysis of the data that you collected
What is the relationship between an experiment and a hypothesis?
An experiment tests a hypothesis to support or disapprove a hypothesis
When you are following scientific methods, what is the correct procedure for investigation?
There is no correct way because there are many different ways to do things. It’s correct as long as they follow steps and answer a question.
What is the conceptual model?
It is a system of ideas or they are sometimes based on making a comparison with familiar things.
What a model?
A pattern, plan, representation, or description designed to show the structure or workings of an object system or concept
Give an example of a model using science that is larger than the object represents and an example of a model that is some smaller than the object represents.
Cell model is bigger than an actual cell and a dinosaur model is smaller than the actual dinosaur
How is a theory different from a law?
A theory is an explanation or WHY something happens and a law is a summary of WHAT happens
