what does it abnormally cause

A
  • abnormal perception and sensation; visual, hearing, and speech impairments; seizures; and cognitive disabilities.
  • CP manifests differently in each child.
  • Developmental outcomes vary and are dependent on the severity of the injury.

nursing care

A
  • Maintain an open airway by elevating the head of the child’s bed.
  • Ensure suction equipment is available if required.
  • Monitor for pain (especially with muscle spasms)
  • Administer medication for pain and/or spasms.
  • Ensure adequate nutrition.
  • Assess for the possibility of aspiration for children who are severely disabled.
  • Administer feedings by gastric tube as prescribed.
  • Maintain weight/height chart.
  • Assess skin under splints and braces if applicable.
