Cells and Tissues Flashcards
Is a multicellular organism that contains a nucleus, extensive organelles and is about 10-40um in size.
Eukaryote
Is a single celled organism, does not contain a nucleus, has no organelles but has a cell wall and a capsule. it is about 1-5um in size.
Prokaryote
This is within the cell, it is a viscous fluid that contains water, ions and proteins and organelles are suspended in this fluid.
Cytosol/cytoplasm
These have discrete structures that have a definitive function.
e.g. nucleus
Organelles
What does the plasma membrane do?
- Defines boundaries
- Interaction with other cells
- Controls the flow od substances/is semipermeable
- Maintains cellular homeostasis
Where in cells are receptors located?
In the plasma membrane
What is the role of the nucleus?
It contains chromosomes that carry genetic information (DNA). It also has a nucleolus which carries RNA.
