Q

What is interphase?

A

cells do not divide continiously, long periods of growth and normal working seperate divisions. Cells spend most there time here.

Q

What occurs during interphase?

A

Dna is replicated and checked for errors, protein synthesis occurs in the cytoplasm, mitochondria frown and divide( increasing in numbers in the cytoplasm), Chloroplasts grow and divide in plant and algal cell cytoplasm increasing in number, the normal metabolic process cells occur(respiration)

Q

First stage of interphase?

A

G1 - first growth phase, proteins from which organelles are synthesised are produced and organelles replicate. Cell increases in size

Q

Third stage of interphase?

A

G2 - second growth phase: the cell continues to increase in size, energy stores are increased and the duplicated DNA is checked for errors

Q

Mitotic Phase ?

A

Mitosis - the nucleus divides, cytokinesis - the cytoplasm divides and two cells are produced

Q

G0 phase?

A

when the cell leaves the cycle either temporarily or permanently. Differentiation - a cell that becomes specialised to carry out a function - permenant. The DNA of a cell may be damaged, damage cells cannot divide, enters cell arrest due to damage. senescent cells
