Cardiovascular Drugs: Vasodilators Flashcards
What is vasoconstriction the body’s response to?
low blood pressure due to a failing heart
Why is vasoconstriction bad?
Makes it harder for the failing heart to pump blood
What do vasodilators do?
prevent vasoconstriction from occurring
What vasodilator is this? (3)
1. block formation of angiotensin II which is responsible for vasoconstriction and sodium retention
Enalapril (Enacard), Benazepril, Captopril
What vasodilator is this?
1. causes direct relaxation of vascular smooth muscle
Hydralazine
What vasodilator is this?
1. blocks vasoconstriction caused by the sympathetic n.s.
Prazosin
What vasodilator is this?
1. applied topically, caused dilation of veins
Nitroglycerin
What can all vasodilators cause?
hypotension
