Cardiovascular Development 1 Flashcards
WHat is the ductus venosus?
Allows for blood to bypass liver without nutrients being filtered at liver
What causes closure of ductus arteriosus?
Increase in O2 content stimulates closure
What occurs upon closure of ductus arteriosus?
Formation of ligamentum arteriosum
Increase in pressure of left side of heart which equalizes pressure in the right and left atria, which closes the foramen ovale
What causes for closure of foramen ovale?
Increase in pressure on left side of heart
What causes for closure of ductus venosus?
No blood flowing through it due to cutting of umbilical cord
What is responsible for formation of lig. teres hepatis
Stretching of umbilicus which stimulates closing of umbilical veins which results in formation of lig. teres hepatis
What is the free edge in the falciform ligament?
Lig. Teres hepatis
When does cardiovascular development begin?
When embyo can no longer depend on diffusion becuase it is too large and has too many cells
What is peristent right aortic arch also known as?
Vascular ring
What is persistent right aortic arch?
Aorta develops on right side not left side
- Normal development of arch 6
- abnormal development of arch 4
- Wrong side is released and you get trapping of esophagus
What structures do the aortic arches surround?
Trachea
Esophagus
What occurs to the first 2 arches?
Atrophy and disapear
What do the 3rd arches form?
Common carotid arteries and proximal segments of the internal carotid artery
What is the segment of the dorsal aorta between the 3rd and 4th arches called?
Carotid duct
What happens to the carotid duct?
Atrophies and disapears
