Cardiac Emergencies Flashcards
What are the Peripheral Pulses?
Radial, brachial, tibial, dorsalis pedis
What is Plasma?
the fluid part of blood
What are platelets?
clotting material of blood
What and where is the Posterior Tibial Artery?
artery supplying the foot, behind the medial ankle.
What is the Aorta?
The largest artery, carrie’s blood from left ventricle.
What is an arteriole?
smallest type of artery
What is an artery?
any blood vessel carrying blood away from the heart.
What is the function of the Cardiovascular system?
-pumps blood
-transports nutrients, oxygen, waste.
What is a a venule?
the smallest kind of vein
What do white blood cells do?
help body fight infection.
What is Blood vessel Dysfunction?
-vessels no longer intact
-loss of tone
-excessive permeability
-hypertension
What is a Vein?
any vessel running to the heat
What is the Venae Cavae?
Superior and Inferior
Run blood from body to right atrium
What are the ventricles?
2 lower chamber of the heart
R - oxygen poor blood to the lungs
L - oxygen rich blood to the body
What is the Brachial Artery?
Upper arm artery, site of pulse for infants.
What is a capillary?
Thin walled, microscopic blood vessel
provided exchange of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nutrient waste with the body cells
What is the Cardiac Conduction System?
Specialized muscle tissue that conducts electrical impulses that stimulate the heart to beat.
What is cardiac muscle?
Involuntary muscle found in the heart only
What are the Cartoid Arteries?
Large neck arteries that carrie’s blood from the heart to the head.
What are our Central Pulses?
Cartoid and femoral
What are the coronary arteries?
Blood vessels that supply the heart with blood.
What is the Diastolic Blood pressure number mean?
Pressure in the artistes when the left ventricle is refilling
What is Mechanical Cardiac Dysfunction?
-Physical Trauma (bullet holes, stab wounds, blunt force trauma)
- loss of cardiac muscle from cell death (often accompany a heart attack)
What is Electrical Cardiac Dysfunction?
Can be a result of heart attack/ heart failure, or electrical injuries.
arrhythmias will be present
