calorimeter experiments Flashcards

dissolving, neutralisation, displacement and combsution

1
Q

enthalpy of combustion experiment method

A
  • Measure a fixed volume of water into a copper can
  • Weigh the spirit burner containing a fuel using balance
  • Measure initial temperature of the water
  • Burn the fuel and stir water
Wait until temperature has risen about 20º C and extinguish the flame
  • Record final temp of water and re-weigh spirit burner

Q

experiment for neutralisation, dissolving and combustion

A
  • A fixed volume of one reagent is added to the calorimeter and initial temp is taken
  • Add more amount of the second reagent is added and the solution is stirred continuously
  • Maximum temperature is recorded and temperature rise calculated
