calorimeter experiments Flashcards
dissolving, neutralisation, displacement and combsution
1
Q
enthalpy of combustion experiment method
A
- Measure a fixed volume of water into a copper can
- Weigh the spirit burner containing a fuel using balance
- Measure initial temperature of the water
- Burn the fuel and stir water
Wait until temperature has risen about 20º C and extinguish the flame - Record final temp of water and re-weigh spirit burner
2
Q
equation for enthalpy
A
Q= mc^T
3
Q
experiment for neutralisation, dissolving and combustion
A
- A fixed volume of one reagent is added to the calorimeter and initial temp is taken
- Add more amount of the second reagent is added and the solution is stirred continuously
- Maximum temperature is recorded and temperature rise calculated
