Calcium Homeostasis (How bone regulates Ca+2 levels) --ROLES OF OSTEOBLASTS AND OSTEOCLASTS--notes Flashcards
1
Q
What do osteoblasts do?
A
They create new bone.
2
Q
What happens during the process of osteoblasts creating new bone?
A
cause calcium to be put into (deposited) in the bone because it leaves the bloodstream and enters the
forming bone. Thus, they lower calcium levels in the blood.
3
Q
What to osteoclasts do?
A
They break down bone.
4
Q
What happens when osteoclasts break down bone?
A
in the process cause calcium to be released from the bone. Thus, they increase calcium levels in the blood.
