Q

What are the 6 main events of endochondral ossification?

A

1) Cartilage growth (forms basic size and shape of the bone it will become)2. Periosteum form on the surface of the cartilage 3. Compact bone forms under the periosteum 4. Calcification occurs, causing cavitation (calcium is added, causing a hole to form as cartilage dies) 5. Primary Ossification Centers appear (which form spongy bone of the shaft) 6. Secondary Ossification Centers appear (which form spongy bone of the knobby ends).
