A

The rounded ends, filled with spongy bone and covered by outer layer
of compact bone

Q

What is the Metaphysis/Growth Plate

A

Area between diaphysis and epiphysis. Before
puberty contains the epiphyseal growth plate. After
puberty, when the growth plate disappears, contains the
epiphyseal line (scar where growth plate was).

Q

Red Bone Marrow/ Myeloid Tissue

A

The birthplace of RBC’s and WBC’s; Located throughout skeleton of children but
only in select locations of adult skeleton.

12
Q

Membrane made of a single layer of osteoblasts and osteoclasts
which lines the medullary cavity and covers trabeculae of spongy
bone

A

Endosteum
Essential because it provides bone cells needed for
growth, remodeling, and repair of bone.

16
Q

Outer Layer is made up of what?

A

Dense irregular collagenous tissue

17
Q

Sharpey’s fibers

A

AKA (perforating fibers)
attach the periosteum to tendons and ligaments, forming strong connections to
them.

18
Q

Inner Layer is made up of?

A

Single layer of osteoblasts; Essential because it provides bone
cells needed for bone growth, remodeling, and repair.
