Articulations and their Movements----SYNOVIAL JOINTS---General Description--notes Flashcards
What kind of movement happens in a Synovial Joint and what is it called?
Allows for free movement.
Diarthrotic
Synovial Joints contain a Joint Cavity. What is that and what does it contain?
-A space between the bones, created by a joint
capsule, and filled with synovial fluid.
Synovial Fluid - lubricates joint movement
What else does a Synovial Joint contain?
Contain Large Ligaments
Contain Bursae
Contain Articular Cartilage
May Contain Menisci
What is Bursae?
“Sacks” of fluid-filled synovial membrane located where
tendons and ligaments rub against bone
What is Articular Cartilage?
Hyaline cartilage on epiphyseal bone surfaces
where bones make contact/rub together
What is Menisci?
-Disc of fibrocartilage that floats between the
bones of the knee joint
