C6. P6 Flashcards
What is equipotentiality?
The potential for acquiring an association is roughly equal across stimuli, behaviors, and responses and it argues that findings from laboratory studies with animals can be directly applied across species, contexts, and stimuli
What is a biological constraint?
A biological process that limits or impacts standard and well validated conditioning process
What is biological preparedness?
organisms and species are biologically prepared to form some types of associations more rapidly than others
What is the behavior systems theory?
Assumes that adaptive evolutionary processes produce biologically-driven behavior systems that influence how associations are learned
What is instinctual drift?
The tendency for a reinforced or conditioned behavior to be overcome by or integrated into more instinctual behaviors
What is preparatory learning?
Organisms learn to associate a stimulus with an outcome and adjust their responses accordingly
What are the two things involved in latent learning?
First, an absence of reinforcement, punishment, or conditioning. Secondly, an incentive
What intrinsic motivation?
The internally-driven desire to engage in a behavior
What is extrinsic motivation?
Externally-driven desire to engage in a behavior
Is equipotentiality widely supported?
No
Who came up with behavior system theory?
Timberlake
What is the difference in the CR and UR in substitute and preparatory learning?
Substitute usually results in the UR and CR being the same, preparatory can sometimes results in different UR and CR
What is the jumping rat study?
Bottom of cage shocked rats when a sound played. When shocked they jumped, but when the sound went off by itself they stood still
What is the angry vs smiling face association study?
People were shocked after shown an angry face. The fear response between the happy and angry face suggested that people were quicker to lower their guard when the smiling face came up
What is the shocking light bulb study?
People with a damaged amygdala did not prepare themselves for a shock, whereas a non-damaged amygdala would
