When using a guide bushing and a template, what allowance must be made?
Gap between router bit and the outside bushing must be considered when making the template

For safe operation, how should the router be moved in relation to the wood?
Move the router so that the cutter is rotating against the direction of the cut
How is a standard router plunged into the work?
Start the router & place the edge of the base at an angle on the surface to be routed, with a twisting motion, keep the base in contact
How does a collet work?
Collet houses the router bit
What task might you use a router for when framing?
Trimming sheathing & cutting openings for electrical boxes
Why would you use an in-feed and out-feed fence on a router table?
For using the router-like a jointer
What is the maximum speed you would use with a 2” router bit?
16,000 RPM
How do you measure the cutting depth a bit?
the distance from the cutting edge to the outside of the guide bearing
What does a Router’s motor run at?
20,000 to 30,000 RPM, because router bits only have two cutting edges
What determines the size of a router?
The HP & the maximum shank diameter of the bit
What is a collet (router)
Router bits are attached to the arbor of the motor using the collet
What are guide bearings used for?
In combination with a fence, attached to the router to make a clean cut with less chance of damaging the finished surface
What does a straight flute bit do?
Straight flute bits, w/o guide bearings cut a plough or a dado in a board with a guide bearing
Useful for trimming laminate and wood edging
What does a chamfer bit do?
45 degree bevel
