If no LSR rescue, place ladder to top floor and VEIS with 2nd LCC.
Once assured laddering is not needed, or VEIS is compete, report to officer with whatever tools needed. (6’ hooks expected on top floor)
1st OV
For top floor fires, saw is taken in place of the hook
Assist LCC in front if ladder rescues required
When no rescue required at front of building, check rear for trapped occupants
Building with fire escape
- team up with 1st roof and VEIS fire floor. If not needed on fire floor, VEIS floors above
When unable to team up or unable to enter
- return to front of building and team up with 1st LCC and VEIS top floor.
For top floor fire
-proceed to roof with saw and Halligan tool
-when possible, descend fire escape and VEIS top floor. Team up with 2nd OV
When unable to descend fire escape, vent fire apartment from roof level and assist roof vent
1st roof
Take LSR to roof
Take aerial (to adjoining building for top floor fire)
-When taking aerial, roof FF helps LCC set up
Survey rear, courts, and shafts from roof
Building with a fire escape, team up with 1st OV and VEIS fire floor. If not needed in fire floor, VEIS floors above
If there is no fire escape, descend aerial ladder, if still in position and team up with 1st LCC for VEIS of top floor. When ladder not in position, contact officer for direction.
2nd truck inside team - Top floor fire in a brownstone
Check floors below to insure fire didn’t start on lower floor. Be available to assist or relieve 1st ladder on top floor. Remain on floor below until needed, do not block stairs.
2nd truck LCC
Report to 1st truck turntable to assist, or team up with 1st LCC for top floor VEIS
If no longer needed for laddering operations in front, go to work where company officer directs
2nd OV
When 1st truck is a TL, 2nd OV must cover the rear
Except for assisting LCC in front for rescue, check rear for trapped occupants and assure vent has been completed. This is especially important if first truck is a T.L. as 1st OV will be in bucket.
For top floor fire, report to roof to assist vent, or go to an exposure as directed by officer
For a building with a fire escape, team up with 2nd roof and VEIS apartment directly over the fire.
2nd roof
For top floor fires, saw is taken with 6’ hook
Take 2nd aerial to roof, if it can be raised to fire building or an exposure.
Check for rear fire escape. When present, team up with 2nd OV and VEIS all floors above fire.
When no further need to be on roof, report to officer
For fire below top floor, be alert to 1st roof request for a saw, due to tarred over skylights, etc…
Tower Ladder variations in brownstones
LCC must stay at pedestal
OV operates from basket, 2nd OV goes to rear
When basket used for roof access, saw and LSR will be brought to roof
OV awaits roof size-up, then repositions basket to fire floor for vent, after venting fire floor, reposition for top floor VEIS. Prior to top floor VEIS, team up with the roof FF.
Roof FF takes basket to roof, then teams up with 1st OV for top floor VEIS
2nd LCC does not have to report to pedestal. Maybe be assigned to:
Examine exposures
Assist with roof operations
Team up with another member
1st truck officer
Decide whether entry can be made safely before a charged line is in position.
Find fire and isolate, start search from this point.
Inform engine officer of fire location and unusual layout.
Inform IC of structural features that endanger exposures or permit extension.
