Which botanical herb is:
Renal antiseptic (NOT a diuretic)
Used for: alkali UTIs, chronic bladder irritation w/ pain, tenesmus, blood, mucus,
Side effects: gastric sensitivity, N&V, stomach ache, liver damage (w/ extended use, esp. in kiddos)
C/I: pregnancy, use beyond 10 days, kidney d/o’s
Separate use of this herb from use of iron by 1-2 hours
Should NOT be administered w/any substance that causes acidic urine (it reduces antibacterial effects - particularly Vit C and cranberry)

N&V, impotence, fatty liver, insomnia, nightmares, hallucinations, convulsions
Thujone: emmenagogue, abortifacient, convulsions, possible carcinogen
C/I: large doses, pregnancy/lactation
Thuja occidentalis

Astringent, diuretic, counter-irritant (fresh herb)
Topical use: rubefacient for rheumatic ailments
Internal use: Infxn of urinary tract, kidney/bladder stones, irrigation therapy for prevention and tx of kidney stones
Root: prostate complaints, irritable bladder, and micturition d/o in prostate adenoma stages I and II.
(Note: herb ONLY relieves the s/sx of enlarged prostate, does NOT reduce enlargement itself). Reduces residual urine and increases urinary flow.
C/I: pregnancy (potent diuretic), fluid retention from reduced cardiac/renal fxn

C/I: first trimester of pregnancy, lactation, estrogen dependent tumors
HRT therapy leading to estrogen excess (but does not affect uterus), reduces hot-flushes from Tamoxifen

Used for: amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, estrogen imbalance, menopause, PMS (menstrual regulator, reduces heavy flow), tonic for uterus, liver, digestion and whole body
Side effects: fever, GI disturbance, inc. bleeding
Pts on this herb concurrently with blood thinners should be monitored (prothrombin time and INR)
C/I: hemorrhagic dz, hypermenorrhea, chronic diarrhea, abdominal bloating, acute infxn, pregnancy (esp. 1st trimester)
Photodermatitis if too much sun and potentiates anticoagulants
