Blood pressure disturbances Flashcards
Which antihypertensives should be held the day of surgery?
ACE & ARBs
What is the most common cause of postoperative hypertension?
Pain
A material used in joint replacement, undergoes an exothermic reaction that causes it to adhere to imperfections in the bony surface. Hypotension usually occurs 30 to 60 seconds after placement of the cement but can occur up to 10 minutes later.
Methylmethacrylate
Why does administration of renin-angiotensin system antagonists result in hypotension in the peri-induction period? How might the hypotension be treated?
Loss of sympathetic tone superimposed on renin-angiotensin system (RAS) blockade.
Administration of intravenous fluids is a proper first response.
Refers to the conscious recollection of specific
intraoperative events that took place during general anesthesia, also called ANESTHETIC AWARENESS.
Explicit memory
Reflects changes in behavior or performance secondary to an anesthetic experience without the ability to specifically recall the event.
Implicit memory
How is first-degree atrioventricular block identified?
PR > 0.2 seconds
Involves progressive lengthening of the PR interval followed by a nonconducted P wave, followed by a conducted P wave with a shorter PR interval.
Mobitz type I (Wenckebach)
There is no progressive prolongation of the PR interval, which for the first conducted beat is the same
as the PR interval before the nonconducted beat.
Mobitz type II
No P waves conducted to the ventricles.
Complete heart block
Is a supraventricular rhythm (SVT) rhythm with heart rate greater than 100 when there are at least three different P wave morphologies.
Multifocal atrial tachycardia (MAT)
What is the main contraindication to adenosine?
Bronchospasm
